Recently, the County Employment and Wages report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics was released detailing what the average wage earner makes in each county statewide. This information may prove helpful if you are trying to decide which area of the South Sound is the best fit for your family to purchase a home.

Pierce County (Tacoma) made $821 per week in September 2010. In Thurston County (Olympia, Lacey, Tumwater) the average per week was $813.

The figures count federal employees and those who are covered by unemployment insurance and nationwide represent just over 70 percent of all workers.

Also among the data from the third quarter of 2010:

• In Pierce County (Tacoma), wages were up 2.6 percent.

• In Thurston County (Olympia, Lacey, Tumwater), 0.6 percent.

• The average weekly wage in Washington, $953, was up 4 percent.
